parent term not clickable

hope someone can help - have read through all other issues and still cant get solution

Using tree view in a block as shown below - with javascript enabled

Term A (expanded)
-child
-child
-child

Term B (collapsed)
Term C (collapsed)

in above situation when term a is clicked the menu is expanded - however it is not possible to click through to Term A's nodes 9 (ie display all nodes assigned to Term A) - essentiall I want to be able to click term a to retreve nodes assigned to it. With JS disabled this is possible.

The url shows in status bar but I cannot get to it

My question - is this a configuration issue or smply not possible?

advice will be very appreciated
