How Drupal capable of my needs?
Good evening folks!
I've basically just began developing a project i hope to launch some time during 2009. Without giving away to much detail, I'd like a little assistance and possibly some helpful advice.
The project will involve joe public uploading pictures, which will automaticly be placed on a "wall" of pictures. Now when i say wall, I'm referring to the page the pictures will be placed on, it will contain no navigation apart from important and related links. Would i require a gallery for this? A large gallery? A gallery with extended features would be absolutely perfect as I'd like users to be able narrow down an image search using location.
Shortly after or before a user uploads a photo, I'd like him/her to be prompted to add additional information (which will tie in with the location search), is this also possible?
I'm truly sorry if these are regular questions that are more than easier to achieve, I would just like to be sure Drupal offers what I require. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Ash.

Drupal can do what you
Drupal can do what you describe, no question. However, if you're truly only interested in photos, you may want to take a look at http://gallery.menalto.com before making your final decision. Using drupal would allow for future expansion and addition of things like blogs, articles, forums, etc. But there is a learning curve that comes with drupal-- if you're sure you'll only be interested in photos, it might be easier to go with something likey menalto gallery instead.

Much appreciated
Thank you for your reply, it's greatly appreciated. I've weighed up most of the pros and cons and it seems Drupal would be perfect for the project as a lot of the modules Drupal has available for it would be nicely implemented into my website later on in the year. Would you recommend any of the gallerys for use?
Personally, none of the
Personally, none of the gallery modules I tried (and I think i've tried them all at one time or another) functioned exactly like I wanted so I went with a manual solution so I could have complete control. However, I've seen a lot of people mentioning http://drupal.org/project/brilliant_gallery lately. There's also a gallery component to the http://drupal.org/project/image module which is one of the main image handling modules.

Brilliant, will any of the gallerys mentioned allow users to upload an image and have it automatically placed on a "wall" of images?
Depending on what you mean
Depending on what you mean by wall-- if they don't, it should be easy enough to create one with the http://drupal.org/project/nodequeue module. For an actual 'wall' of images see the http://drupal.org/project/piclens module.

I should of been a little
I should of been a little more clearer when i said wall. I've just thrown together a quick example of what i mean, it's fairly simple.

Absolutely no navigation, just the important links and the pictures more or less fill the entire page.
You can get the basics of
You can get the basics of that with the views module grid layout-- then you'll have to theme a specific page.tpl.php file for that particular page to get rid of the extraneous elements, but yes, you can do that.
