I am the maintainer of the Openads module and this new OpenX module duplicates the functionality of the Openads module. I can see that much of the code comes straight from my module in fact. I've asked the Drupal webmasters about renaming the Openads module to OpenX because of the name change of the ad server itself.
I did not receive a response but my clear intention was that Openads should become OpenX since it supports OpenX and only still says Openads because changing project names doesn't seem to be a trivial task on d.o.
If you have ideas of changes for Openads I welcome patches but I think that putting this module out there confuses things.

brmassa commentedSince April 2008, OpenAds module was not updated. considering not a issue anymore.

owahab commentedAs a community member, I need to know why did you create this module when you *knew* another one is already available.

killes@www.drop.org commented@Omar: brmassa does this quite often, seems to be a habit.

avpadernoThe version for Drupal 6 of this module has been last updated on May 2009. When a module that has a similar purpose of an existing one is created, the project page should report the differences between the modules, or at least report a link to the other project page.

craigmc commentedkaimlaluno, taking your advice under advisement.
I'm actually coming on as co-maintainer of this module and have some enhancements I'll be looking to add to it in the coming weeks, such as supporting appending custom targeting variables to the open ads URL, as well as allowing for individual ad calls-- some ad blocks may need specific targeting variables, and can't use single page ad calls.

gordon commentedOut of all the versions openx is most up to date and is recognized by OpenX. I have created a D7 version which I have working on a couple of sites, and also support for site variables.
