Here is what i am after. I use forum in "Flat list-expanded" mode. Oldest post first. So i get the same structure most of modern forums uses.
Now i would like to do one thing:
Every post has a reply button. If we click on it we can write a reply to it. And in the database the structure will stay as Threaded list. OK so far. BUT:
I would like to do these:
When somebody would click on reply button everything would be the same BUT:
entire content of the post which replay button we pressed would be coppied in our reply window. And < blockquote > < blockquote /> tag's would surround them.
How would i achieve that? Any suggestions? I know about "quote module" with BBcode. But i would like to use plain html.
Comments
.
Why not file a feature request on the quote module to optionally use blockquote?

I am new at this community. Must get a clue of how the things are done here. I opened a request as you suggested.

There is another thing that could be problematic. Quote module produces another button. "quote". And reply button stays as it is. So probbably quote module is independent.
In order to do these the comment module will probbably have to be altered? Or is it possible to override Drupal core output functions? With hooks or something else? These is realy not my area. So much things probably are different that i think they are. But i would really like to make these work.
.
No, you don't want to hack the comment module. It can be done with hook_link_alter. That's probably beyond what you can do right now, though, if you're new to Drupal. I've been thinking about making it an option in advanced forum to remove the reply button when the quote module is installed but that won't make it into the 1.0 release. I'll make an issue for it, though, and maybe could get to it early on in the 2.x branch.

I see
Just one thing to think about. Maybee it would be better not to replace the reply button but just to use it for 2 things.
-for quoting (really good in Flat list mode)
-and for what it does now (building a structure for Threaded list view)
Then we would preserve basic Drupal functionality for Threaded list topic structure too not just Flat list topic structure.
But i know there are at least 2 issues with that:
-quote module would have to be able to do that by it self
-And the other thing i will describe in more detail. These could even be the core Drupal functionallity. I really see it in the core to be honest. Or a feature of quote module too. But probabbly these would be too hard to make just like that:
So the description:
Drupal uses 2 types of post layouts.
-Threaded list
-Flat list
And the basic concept behind these two concepts is that these 2 modes are totally compatible in ANY given time. We could use one or another as we prefere. And evan change it between as we prefere.
And here is the idea i think it could make it in to core:
Threaded to Flat:
If we change the posts to Flat view the "time table" changes from oldest to newst for example. And then comment we answered could automatically be produced as a blockquote in the same post as the answer is. So the original comment is in two places. As an independent post and as a quote in another post somewhere in the time table.
Flat to Threaded:
In FLAT mode when we would click on reply the post would be automaticaly produced in our post too as a blockquote. BUT as we would change back to the Threaded list the blockqoute would be gone (so we would not have original comment and then a reply and a qouote of that comment just underneath it) . And just the answer would be under the post we were replying too.
And we would still have compatibility between this two modes but much more functionality!
.
If that's something you wish to persue, anyone can submit patches to core. It's not something I have any interest in. I hate threaded forums and force all mine to flat.

It's just a suggestion
It's just a suggestion. Beacose Drupal uses these 2 systems. And evan has the ability to let users choose which they want to use. These would only enhance the ussabilty in my opinion. And i use Flat list too.
There could still and should be a normal quote button. That would allow to quote only parts of comments. But with "direct reply" to comments both structures could be preserved and nobody would sufer. All would gain.
"Threaded listers" would preserve structure, "Flat listers" would gain quote and with it user friendliness. And still both options could be used only at more advance level.
But these is just a disscussion. Probabbly nothing like that will be in the core or evan in some module.
"Threaded listers" would qoute automaticaly with replying for more readability among "Flat listers" and "Flat lister" would with direct quoting of some comment automaticaly build structure for Threaded list view. But these is just an idea.
.
Well, suggestions without code behind them usually don't get very far. If this is something that interests you, don't be afraid to persue it. But my interest lies in getting rid of threaded forums. I don't support them with advanced forum and I'd be happy if core dropped that option. So I'm no help to you in this.

Now i see quote module does
Now i see quote module does this allready. It preserves the Threaded list structure just like we would use reply button. And in Flat mode it has the correct time table!
Stupid of me i didn't noticed that before!
Remove reply button
http://drupal.org/node/185855
And this is how i removed reply button.
Reset theme to work
Just to solve some novice users truble if they read this topic. If somebody is not able to reproduce "removing reply button". Post 14 and 20 combined. That is the answer from above link.
Last time it worked "out of the box". Today i tried again in one other theme i am working on. And it din't remove the button right away! I had to replace the theme with other defoult one and then back again. Probabbly to clear cache and for modified template.php file to be reloaded again. Than it works.
