In topic http://drupal.org/node/349666 it was suggested to open a request. So i did.
Bottom line.
Could a module have option to use < blockquote > tags instead of BBcode tags. Option would be activated if we would press reply button. So there would be no need for quote button.
We would gain more things:
-user friendliness most modern forum have by defoult
-feature would be very usefull for "Flat list" mode forum
-Flat list type forums would still have the structure of "Threaded list" type forums. Now if we use quote button in Flat list type forum Threaded list is not maintained
-"Threaded list" type forums could still use separate quote button and choose if they want to quote or not
-Un installing the module would still produce correct post out-put.

Ledo2 commentedNow i see quote module does this allready. It preserves the Threaded list structure just like we would use reply button. And in Flat mode it has the correct time table! So bassicaly it does everything it should be doing.
Stupid of me i didn't noticed that before!
So only the part which mentiones the < blockquote > is a suggesstion. To have a option to use BBcode or to use HTML tags directly. And maybee a option to disable reply button in admin area. So we don't have to do that manually with code.
Great module. Keep on the good work!

ball.in.th commentedHi,
I would like to second this feature request. And to make it easier to style the quote, maybe a div tag like the one being used in drupal.org could be added. With this method, the filter wouldn't be needed anymore. The original author may be added as an attribute.

frames commentedI will also second this, althought I totally disagree.
;-)
Let me explain myself.
I would want to leave the "reply" link as is, but would want to use
blockquotemarkup. AND I would use markup for a different reason (if I understood properly):blockquoteadds actual meaning to the output, which is what X/HTML is for.I see the correct output to be something like this:
Where XXX would be the "author" name and YYY would be the actual quoted text. The "said:" string should of course be translatable.
This would also bring the benefit to be recognized by most brosers and display the blockquote indented, even if no styling is applied via CSS. But to me, that's only a side effect, the main reason is using meaningful markup.
Comments, anyone?

Zen commentedBoth
blockquoteandqhave semantic and/or browser issues, especially w.r.t. block elements, nested quotes etc. That said, the latest dev introduces a theme_quote function which can be overriden in your theme. You can use this to mess around to your hearts' content :)-K
