Album Contents not showing

Description

The contents of my albums suddenly disappeared.
I have images and albums in parent albums. The albums exist as nodes, and the images exist. Both are still associated with a parent album, but do not appear in it. All are published. If an album contains enough images or sub-albums to go on to multiple pages, enough pages to contain all the contents are created, but appear empty. Going to "Album Contents" lists all the expected contents and I am able to edit the contents, but "View" still shows nothing.

New images can be added and they will be displayed, as will new albums. The problem only appears with old albums.

On further inspection it appears that sub-albums are not shown in the parent album even when new ones are created. Images are now appearing in albums, but sub albums do not appear within albums.

What could cause albums to not be shown?

I have found the source of the issue if not exactly why. If I turn on the module Meta tags 5.x-1.12 the albums disappear, and if I uninstall it they reappear. This happens consistently for me.

Of course after doing this I found this issue #179362: Acidfree Albums have disappeared that addresses the same problem.
