Description
Would it be possible to expand the module to include the Timemap functionality?

#1
This may be better served by the Exhibit Module as we move forward. http://drupal.org/project/exhibit
But I will let the primary maintainers weigh in on this.

Imho, Timemap looks like a perfect fit for the Timeline module. I would hate to see the Timeline developers pass the buck on this fantastic feature.
#3
Now this is a nice looking project! As the friendly people from Development Seed (current maintainers of timeline) have quite an interest in mapping themselves, I guess, there is a good chance for a module connecting timemap and drupal. Just speculating.
#4
Exhibit does connect timeline, charts, maps, tables, lists; all with faceted browsing. And since some of the devs for Timeline are also the people working on Exhibit I don't think it's passing the buck.
IMO, expanding the scope of this module is not the way to go. But that does not mean you won't see a more comprehensive/integrated solution to geo/temp data visualization.

Coby

Exhibit is a good module, and I don't intend to suggest otherwise. However, the fact remains that Exhibit is a bear to implement. By comparison Timeline is quite easy. Passing Timemap to the Exhibit developers condemns it to state of inaccessibility for most Drupal administrators.
Arto, formerly the developer for Timeline and now the current developer for Exhibit, is no longer activley involved in the developement of Timeline. That torch has been passed to jmiccolis. I wouldn't count on much synergy between the projects based on shared developers.
I'm sorry if this doesn't suit your sense of tidy development, but if you scroll through the module list, you'll find many modules with overlapping functionality that compete for users. Competition is good; competition is healthy; competition compells innovation and improvement.

@fm I guess I should have said that I am one of the new co-maintainers of this project. Timemap is slick. But I still do not think this is the way forward.
A few questions I have:
1) Can this already be done with existing modules??? http://drupal.org/node/123601
If that, or something like it, is a workable solution I would much rather spend time making sure Timeline plays nicely in a linked multi-view context. That would allow you the flexibility to mix/match views. And perhaps even use Nice Maps as you alluded to earlier. Perhaps a Views/Panels expert could also weigh in here.
2) What geo module would we use to store geo data?
Location would be my guess. And if we are going to use Location then why not just use GMap/Nice Maps and figure out how to link the view with Timeline as in number 1.
Sorry, but I am one of the people who do not like the paradox of choice in Drupal modules when features are redundant. It creates confusion. I will leave the competition to Drupal vs other CMS's.
And Exhibit is hard to implement now, but that should not be the case in the future. I hope to have time to make sure that happens.
I would give this feature request some support if it's to help with a linked multi-view between gmap and timeline, but I can not support adding a dependency on another external library that may not be needed.
I am currently working another project, but as soon as I have time I will investigate the linked multi-view scenario and report back. Believe me, I would like to have this feature too - just want to work smarter and not harder.

Hi Everybody,
I understand (and have experienced) what being said about exhibit being a bear, and that providing something easy to get started with is probably this module's niche. So I can see the value of adding timemap. However, I personally don't have any plans to implement any timemap integration and I share most of Coby's concerns about project overlap.
I'd ask that before anybody tackles adding timemap they please either post here or contact me with how they're going to approach it so we can figure out how it could work.

Just an update. Still can not assign this to myself as I do not want to give false hope - swamped here. Not sure when I will be able to look at Timemap vs timeline/map views comparison.

Any update on this feature?
