Description

Per a discussion on #drupal-games, we'd like to merge http://groups.drupal.org/games-and-game-apis into http://groups.drupal.org/games, also making the maintainer(s) of the games group Morbus, litwol, and/or myself, as the original maintainer of that group has been awol for over a year.

Thanks!

I guess that first, we need to post an announcement to that group, make sure existing nodes are in the games group, change the managers, and delete the second group. I'll look at the nodes later today and see what needs moving.

from litwol: afaik the idea of the http://drupal.org/node/354651 is that whomever is doing the merge will run a db query to move all the nodes over, as well as users, w/o needing to do them by hand.

When group nodes are deleted there is an option to move the nodes from the old group into a new group.

I think the only thing remaining is to post a message and wait a few days so that group members understand the change.

Thanks. Posted an announcement at http://groups.drupal.org/node/17984.

will users be moved too, or do people need to subscribe to the new group?

Can we do this now? It's been about a month, and I've heard no negative responses about doing this.

Thanks,
Aaron

we have a games competition we want to announce, and it would be nice to have these groups consolidated first, to cause minimal confusion, as i hope for the post to be a front page-worthy post.

probably should make sure Morbus and I have admin privs at the games group too.

thanks,
aaron

Yea, I am for this too... I am in Drupal Docs IRC channel and scowering the drupal site for a handbook page or group for this sort of stuff... I think the group should be called "Fun and Games"... It should not only handle game development for drupal, website development for drupal, but also where to find fellow Drupalers to play with!

It would be nice to link things such as http://steamcommunity.com/groups/drupal were fellow players can find each other... I am sure there is an XBox Live Group, maybe a Gamespy Group, etc...

I've since gone and merged all nodes into the new groups. All that's left is moving over users and closing the old group. Could someone handle this? I'm not sure how to move users.

Thanks,
Aaron

I don't think we have the ability to migrate users when deleting a group node.

See attached for the options I see.

To "close" the old group - I can delete the Games and Game API group and create a redirect for the old alias to the new group node. Anything else you'd want?

nah, that's fine. the games and game api group is empty of content, and i've sent two or three warnings to both groups. i say let's get rid of it and be done with it. (the redirect would be icing on the cake).

thanks!
