Do you have any plans to back port this to version 5? upgrading to version 6 is not in the cards right now but having the functionality in the module in 5 would be nice.

I didn't plan to, but I'll do try to estimate how much work it is
and if is not to much work, I will backport it to Drupal-5

I am about to issue new release of core 6.x
The next task will be backporting it to 5.x
