Hi as you can see i am new here. And i am new to drupal. I wanted to build a website and wated it with joomla but there are a lot of commercial modules there so i am thinking of moving to drupal. Now as i have been searching and looking there are tons of duplicated, not so worth it and not that useful modules. Is there any recommended modules for drupal 6.x? What i wanted my drupal site to be is.

1) Users can register
2) Users can upload pictures
3) users can upload only embeded video url, i dont want them to upload their own video neither i dont want to host videos.
4) Picture gallery with comment and rate system
5) Video gallery with picture and rate system
6) users can edit their profile, well simple profile will do.
7) my site should have a lil not so resourceful forum integrate with its system.
8) the home page of my site should have latest activities, latest uploaded photos, recent viewed videos, random profiles.

and anything you can think of, i just want image and video gallery to be the main modules, i dont want to put audio, mp3 etc. that is all i wanted. is there any modules that you can recommend. Any help can be greatly appreciated. or if you know somebody or a website that can customize my site for whether its paid or free pls let me know.

i really wanted my site run by drupal

thanks

Hi doug, welcome to drupal...

regarding your needs:
1. in the core of drupal
2. in the core of drupal (need to set role permissions)
3. http://drupal.org/project/emfield
4. you can use CCK to create that
5. you can use CCK to create that
6. in the core
7. in the core
8. use views module to create those "blocks" of latest/random data, and you can integrate with panels module to set what is displayed where

your needs are pretty easy and straight forward, they can be accomplished with no code work (to some level, of course)
I'd suggest you start with installing drupal, add the CCK and VIEWS modules, play with them to understand what they do and how you can use them in your case.

Yes, my name is related to the Kaltura module (I'm the developer behind the module).

the module is free, the service is free up to 10GB, but since you declared you don't want any hosting or uploading of video files I didn't recommend the module.

i have tried your plugin cause i cant seem to make it work with emfield.. anyway i just realize lately that videos will be uploaded lol so stupid of me.. sorry for not readin and thanks for not recommending it! anyway you host the videosso i think its a point but still limited so i think is stick up not to let members upload jsut let them uploat to youtube and embed it to my site..

anyway thanks!

Kaltura is a great addition for a site that wants to have their own branded look for video upload and storage. I am seriously considering it over links back to youtube.

Some other modules to look at:

Also, there's probably dozens of gallery modules if you don't wish to create them manually with cck. Check out the media category on the downloads page.

thank you for this information i will look on it. by the way is there a module that will make the users profile something like a social network.

There's not 'a module' for that-- that's what you build with the drupal framework. For some great info on building social networks with drupal see http://socnet.shellmultimedia.com.

yeah i was thinking of making my site a social network like website but less features i think the link you just gave me supports less modules that is needed so ill be looking forward of more suggested modules.. and make a working website out of drupal..

or maybe you can make suggestion since that social network like is currently working, should i downgrade my drupal to drupal 5? cause almost all the modules needed are not supported in drupal 6, anyway whats the difference or disadvantages heading back to drupal 5 where i can see that most modules work on drupal 5 and drupal 6 modules are still in development.

thanks!

At this point I don't think there's any benefit to downgrading to drupal 5. If modules haven't begun the upgrade process by now, it's likely they won't be upgraded so relying on them will only hamper your eventual upgrade to d6 down the road. If it were me I'd build as much as I could with d6, then work on assisting with other modules to get them ported.
