The latest nl.po file is reported to have a syntax error in line 1 - during the installation (nl.po file in profiles/default) this error is reported, afterwards, when importing the nl.po file using the locale module, this fails and the error is reported again.
I find it very strange not to see this reported elsewhere. would my winRAR be to blame?

Are you sure this is the 5.x translation? No nl.po lives in profiles/default in drupal 5.
