Assign from path does not work. All menu items and paths are in place and function properly but doesnt assign role

As the title suggests, it seems to work but when you create a user from the menu item for a specific role the user doesn't actually get assigned to that role.

I tested this by creating a role called "Customer" and then created a from path called "Testing Customer" with the setting set to show tabs on registration page. When I registered using the tab on the registration page it created the user but did not assign the "customer" role. The path was set to "customer", this is the only setting I was not sure about and could be causing the problem.
