Using different variables

All is working well but i need to be able to use different variables, for instance:
-When a user signs up for a set of emails the system message shows his name
as a variable - %firstname as well as his email address - %email.
-The emails themselves should show the first name he subscribed
with as a variable - %email along with the rest of the email...
