I'm currently working on a project for which I definitely need this module, so I was wondering if it was wise to use the dev version for D6, or would it be better to just do the whole project in D5 instead?

The end user will never be presented with the interface with the book form, everything will be handled trough services, but I really need subgroups on the backend. Users will be able to collaborate on a piece of content (which is secretly a subgroup) and add post-it notes to it (which will secretly just be nodes as posts within the subgroup).

So basically my question is: how stable is it? will it change fundamentally? would you beat me with a stick if I used this on a production site?

I would not beat you with a stick because that would not be necessary -- The experience of running this module on production site would be sufficient ;).

I hope to have a stable release by the end of march.

the last D6 dev is dec. 2008.
This lets me make the assumption that this module is abandoned for D6 as it is impossible that it would have survived all the changes in OG and other related modules in the meantime.

It seems to me a critical feature for any community web site, while this kind of application should be typical for a CMS like Drupal.
As it seems that D5 better supports OG, would it be wise to downgrade to D5 for OG based sites?

Any update from the maintainer?

I'm currently working on a new release that doesn't use the book module. Right now its basically a port from D5 but with the added snazziness of the Hierarchical Select module. I've created a 6.x-1.x-dev branch, help test so I can create a stable release.

I will be actively be fixing bugs and adding new features to the 6.x-1.x version.

The dev branch has been practically rewritten. All is working except views integration. I would say it's fairly safe to start using but I would recommend waiting till 1.0.

A 6.x-1.0-beta1 has been released. The Views integration has been updated but more views features will be rolling out soon. Please help us test and identify any bugs that need fixing and new features to add to the development queue.
