Description

Hello there,

It is a common feature of mailing list software to be able to invite users. (Some software even lets you manually enter in case you've opted them in elsewhere, but that's another matter.) Is there a way to invite a list of users? I'd like to use this to help seed my newsletter with friends and other writer's friends. Thanks,

bjorn

Please describe how an invitation should work. Describe a minimal approach and an optimal approach.

Minimal:

- administrator could enter in a list of email addresses and those people would be sent a form with a link. If they clicked on the link (or copied and pasted into a web browser) they would be subscribed to the list. If they ignored, it, nothing would happen.

A minor enhancement of this would be to allow a personalization of the standard form.

Mailman has this feature.

- An optimal approach would be to allow anyone on the list, or authorized users, with some limits (very important to prevent spam), to invite people to join in the manner of the administrator.

- Another, possibly best, approach would be for every email to have a "forward this email button", which would take you to a page on the site. On this page, you could enter a personal note, and the email addy(s) of the person (people) to send it to. The forwarded mail would have the message from the person who forwarded it, the original mail and an all important link to join the mailing list. Spam protection could be via one of the captcha plugins.
