Allow users to enable/disable own comments

Is there a way to allow users to enable/disable comments on their own submissions? I know I can create different content types and enable comments on one type and disable comments on another. However, I'd prefer the flexibility of allowing the author to turn commenting on/off on their story as they see fit.

I think I need something like an "enable/disable own comments" type permission. I tried downloading the admin my content comments module but it didn't do anything.
