Form submit confirmation and Customizable messages

When a non-user (or non-logged-in user) hits submit on the subscribe form they get no on-screen confirmation message that their info was sent. What would be ideal is if a customizable message could be displayed informing them that they should look for a confirmation e-mail. In fact, customizable messages for all simplenews messages would be awesome. Thanks.
