I have done close to 1000 pictures during the last two days. I plan to upload my site to my provider soon.
In admin/settings/filemanager I have specified 1000 files per directory.
Since Acidfree creates 3 files (thumnail, small, large) per uplaod, I have close to 3000 files in the directory
files/active/0.
How can this be?
I keep reading about a filemanager patch. So far I have not patched anything. Could this be the reason?

Acidfree doesn't do anything with filemanager files except via its exported API. If the filemanager is not honoring the max files per directory, I would first try updating your code and then filing a bug against the filemanager.

As for a patch, acidfree/test should tell you about your patch status. The latest version of Acidfree requires a patch to the filemanager to support the use of private files (like with node_access protected Acidfree nodes). If you aren't using public/private nodes (Organic Groups, node privacy by role, etc.) then the patch isn't needed and Acidfree will work fine.

Either way, this is not an Acidfree problem, so I am closing this bug.
