Features from Facebook on Drupal
vigneshr35 - March 12, 2009 - 07:59
Hi Everyone,
We are developing a Social Networking site using this great Drupal. We have quite a lot of Social Networking Features and other Basic Features like Posting on a Wall, in the Facebook site. Can anyone give me a list of features from Facebook that I can use with my Drupal site as well. To be even more Precise, I just want to know what all features from there can be implemented successfully in my site.
Knowing this, i can analyse on what all modules i can be usingg to accomplish getting those features working. Thank You

Hi You can try Facebook
Hi
You can try Facebook Status module for facebook type status.

Facebook-style Statuses
The Facebook-style Statuses module combined with Views and Activity will be able to completely mimic the functionality of Facebook by the time there is a full Facebook-style Statuses 2.0 release (I'd say 1-2 months) and a full Activity 2.0 release (I don't know when that will be). Most of it will be handled by Facebook-style Statuses.
Look at this excellent thread
Look at this excellent thread http://drupal.org/node/339148 , the closest clone of facebook I've seen till date. But WAIT!! read the whole comments thread and you would know if u wannna use it or not. Nonetheless excellent efforts by netrift.

Awesome work there
Yes indeed .... Awesome work by Netrift there. But can you clarify a doubt i have. Can i use only some part of the Features that the module has by selecting only some of the files from the downloaded folder of the module 'statusbook' . Ex: If i want only the Friends list part to work, then can i have only that subfolder there to implement what i want. That would releive me from the 'WAIT' caution that u have given me.
What I am asking is too weird..?Or what I am saying is as good as starting from scratch ? But the reason i am asking this is I have my own profile page where i would like to use some part of the modules functionality.

You cannot upload parts of a module. The entire module gets uploaded and you "eneble" the parts of it you want enabled in administer -> modules.
For Statusbook
I'm not sure if what you said holds good for the Statusbook Module as well. Are you trying to say that once i have the folder for that Statusbook module into my Drupal Modules folder, i will be able to see the different parts of the module's features as stand alone modules in the the administer>modules part. And that i can enable the feature i wish to have...?
Thanks Again.

If they (the features) are built as separate modules. yes. Most drupal modules are built this way allowing the administrator the ability to choose between which features get enabled and which ones don't.
admittedly I don't have direct experience with FB statud.module. You can download it and test it on a test site which is a best practice to get these types of questions answered through 1st hand experience.
