For a project where I will be using this in tandem with ubercart, I have carefully analyzed the modules I need and come to the conclusion that I would be better off sticking to drupal 5.0 and associated versions of contrib modules.
Jobtrack is the only missing piece that I badly need to round off the project. I kept going back to zendesk, but the temptation to do it all in drupal is too much, so I am just wondering if it would at all be possible to backport this to drupal 5.0.
I would fund the backport if it were technically possible. Or, is the code so complex that I shouldn't even try it?
I will be very thankful for any insights you could provide.

roball commentedvenkat-rk,
did you have a look at the Case Tracker module (http://drupal.org/project/casetracker)? It has a D5 version.

venkat-rk commentedroball, I have. The problem is that it still resembles project-centric issue resolution too much as opposed to a straightforward help desk ticketing system.

jeremy commentedThere is no reason that a backport to Drupal 5 should be difficult. Patches are welcome. Moving into a postponed state until someone contributes code, as I do not need and will not maintain a D5 version myself.

venkat-rk commentedThanks for the update. If I can contribute the code, how do you see the maintenance and releases working? Just trying to ensure that I don't take on something that will be difficult or cumbersome to manage.
jeremy commentedDo you have a CVS account? Ideally, I'd let you manage the 5.x branch directly. If you stopped maintaining it, I would simply mark is as unmaintained. I will not be putting effort into the 5.x branch myself, sorry.

venkat-rk commentedI have applied for a cvs account to maintain a payment gateway module my company sponsored for ubercart recently. What you suggest sounds like a good plan. I will update this ticket once I get the account (hopefully!).

RikiB commentedI am also very interested in a drupal 5 port. subscribe :)

venkat-rk commentedI have the cvs account, finally, but am undecided on a backport to drupal 5. Between that and upgrading my ubercart payment gateway module to drupal 6, the latter seems a lot easier which means I may actually end up using jobtrack for Drupal 6.
I will take a final call in a week's time and update this issue accordingly.

jeremy commentedUpdating title to better reflect what issue is about.
venkat-rk commentedI have decided to use Jobtrack 6 because I already have the updated payment gateway module for Ubercart. So, I am not particular about a back port to 5. It will have to be someone else, I guess.

jeremy commentedThis does not appear to be happening, closing ticket. If there's a desire, open a new ticket with the support module.
