I have set up my drupal site on a sub domain. All is working fine so far. But what i would like to do is create an image library with about 12 albums, each containg multiple images that can be downloaded by a user. How and what shouldI be using for this? ANy suggestions would be great about now!

There's probably a dozen or more different ways to do galleries. Here are some of the more common ones:

Depending on the complexity & size of your albums i like the exhibit module for this job.
