The image module woks fine - then suddenly(!) my drupal fails generating thumbs and previews:
i got the following messages:
warning: imagejpeg(): Unable to access files/images/IMG_0014_1_1.thumbnail.jpg in /mnt/kw1/07/975/00000008/htdocs/bogensport/includes/image.inc on line 296.

when importing images with image_assist or image import
when using the image module directly i got an additional maessage:
warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /mnt/kw1/07/975/00000008/htdocs/bogensport/includes/common.inc:384) in /mnt/kw1/07/975/00000008/htdocs/bogensport/includes/common.inc on line 192.
No other hints _why_ there are no thumbs and previews. Hm.. may be i haveanother one:
at last the images are in the "images" directory - but an _original file is also not generated...
the bad effect is: my galleries are no longer useable :(
Arne
PS.: changed perms of images and images/temp to drwxrwxrwx no effect :(

walkah commentedcertainly reads to me like a permissions problem. perhaps one of the parent directories does not have the executable bit set? (i.e. files/ or files/images ?) If so, can you provide:
php version, OS, and image.module version (found in // $Id ... $)
the final thing to check is : is safe_mode enabled (perhaps by your hosting provider?)
If so, you may be affected by this PHP bug: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=35071
Otherwise, I'm not able to reproduce this...

arne commentedx bits are set.
I got this from php -i:
---------
PHP Version 4.1.2
System SunOS localhost 5.8 Generic_108528-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi-cEngine
Build Date Feb 28 2002
Configure Command './configure' '--prefix=/opt/KQphp4' '--enable-safe-mode' '--disable-xml' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local' '--with-gd=/usr/local' '--with-png-dir=/usr/local' '--with-mysql=/usr/local' '--with-dom=/usr/local' '--with-zlib' '--with-db2' '--with-ndbm' '--with-gdbm=/usr/local' '--with-mhash=/usr/local' '--with-mcrypt=/usr/local' '--enable-discard-path' '--enable-sysvshm=yes' '--enable-sysvsem=yes' '--enable-debug=no' '--enable-bcmath=yes' '--enable-safe-mode=yes' '--with-exec-dir=/opt/KQphp4/exec' '--with-config-file-path=/opt/KQphp4/etc' '--enable-memory-limit' '--disable-pear' '--enable-calendar' '--enable-dbase' '--enable-wddx' '--enable-trans-sid'
----------
save mode seems to be enabled.
my image module version is:
// $Id: image.module,v 1.146.2.12 2005/12/16 18:19:50 walkah Exp $
are these infos sufficient ?

arne commentedoops, sorry
i checked the settings for my website at the configuration interface provided by my provider and that says
"PHP 4.4.1 for *.php files"
at this interface i can change this to PHP 3, PHP 4.1 or PHP 5.1.1 - which is recommended?

jazzylee77 commentedI was getting the same errors on a site as the top poster
using Image 4.6
PHP version: 4.3.11
files and images folders were readable and executable
when I ran phpinfo one of the lines is "thread safety - disabled" does this mean it is not using safe mode? And thus the bug at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=35071 wouldn't be the problem?
I see nothing about safe mode in the configure commands
anyway...I removed and reinstalled Image 4.6. Then stopped getting errors, but the image "thumbnails were full sized. Then I changed to a backup version of the database and it works fine again.
Don't know why it works. But possibly that's all of some use to someone anyway.

L. Allen Poole commentedI'm having a similar problem... and all my investigations so far turn up no clues. I once thought the problem was with image_import (since that's where I first noticed it), but I guess it's the image module that's conflicting with my host environment.
Here's a summary of my problem and investigations so far:
http://drupal.org/node/73986
Walkah, have you seen this? Does anyone have a solutions to suggest?
Thanks,
Allen
