Used to work just fine along with js countdown timer.
Stopped working a while ago, possibly after some other update (maybe jquery).
I'm just been dis-abling, uninstalling, re-installing, enabling different versions, configs but neither autologoout nor countdown timer work any more

Start by disabling all modules you can and test autologout by itself. If it doesn't function there is a larger problem with the site. Maybe date-time or sessions? Get back to basics and see what stuff works. I also wouldn't run any -dev modules unless you need to. Which versions are you running for you web server, mysql, and php?
