Alternate method to specify site for preview

Description
I maintain the Web Links module. It has 3 modes for creating links: URL, node, and redirect. The "node" setting take the user to the node, where the URL is exposed. The "redirect" link goes to a function that looks up the URL and redirects to it.
In those two cases, the main links page does not show the preview bubble because the URL is not exposed. Is there some way to still show the bubble on the links page?
