Actually I just discovered finally that Pathauto for my user path seemed the cause.

It would allow existing Albums to add photos,
but it would hang on new Albums.
It would upload the Original, and create an empty Thumbnail directory (No frame directory)
The progress bar would never go away.

I am not sure which module causes that effect, just wanted to share for others who may run into it.

Looks like that only affected the user profile page.
I still have been encountering hanging uploads. On a test site.
It seems I get partial uploads wher the original is not the full file size.
My main site started working again, and I am unsure what changed?

Uninstalled the Gallerix Module from the demo site, re-installed and it worked again.
* Except smaller files only. Hmmm
Not really blaming the module ... just sharing in case there is some elusive answer.
