Im wondering the same thing as you, I've just re-designed my site using CSS and XHTML and got it to a point I'd be happy to have drupal running the back-end of it but just wondering if making the site and then adding Drupal is a bit backward and the wrong way to do things?

But yeah any help on this would be great

Basically yes and no. You can bend drupal to do what you want, but working "with" Drupal is a lot easier. Its good to have a grasp of what that means before designing, but thats not always the case so I would just get to it and port your design to Drupal, solving each problem as you go.

The "hardness" level is directly relative to the themers level of expertise.

As far as Drupal is concerned, this theme is very easy.
