Create Content Menu Permissions

I would like to remove the create content menu for the 'authenticated' role on my site, as it only shows up to allow a user to post a forum topic, which they can do from the forum. I got rid of the menu altogether, but I still want the menu for content admins to make pages and stories. I tried removing just the forum submenu item, but the create content menu still shows for the authenticated role with a blank screen. Any ideas?
