Community & Support

Hi to all, and after a bit of advice...

Hi to all,

Sorry, but the first post is a question!

I've looked at a few different CMS options in the past, but never with a specific project in mind. I've now looking at one with a few requirements, and would really appreciate some advice on the suitability of Drupal, and which modules could be used to possibly make it happen.

The proposed site will be a venue and events directory with adverts, viewable and searchable by location, date and category.
Customers would need the ability to log on and submit listings and banner ads, with a payment facility for them.
Administrators would need the ability to approve them before going live.
There might be a requirement for regional administrators to be restricted to only entries in their region.
Adverts would need to be displayed throughout the site by category.
Listings and adverts will need to expire at the end of a pre-paid period.

It would be ideal if this could largely be achieved with open-source modules, but any hints and tips on commercially modules or potential custom development costs would also be greatly greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
Ian

You can do this all with Drupal modules, will take some time if you are doing this on your own, theres many facets to learn and find the best solutions for.

Modules?

I can see a use case for Panels in there also.

All of the above are quite complex modules and very extensible, take your time to become friends with them.

Hi, Thanks very much for such

Hi,

Thanks very much for such a quick reply.

I'm definitely expecting a bit (well a lot to be honest) of learning and prototyping. At the moment it's a case of choosing a base technology that has the potential, then build from there. I really don't want the project to be a bespoke development, as that would be re-inventing too many wheels, but don't want to dig a really big hole with the wrong choice at the outset.

Oh, sorry - forgot one more thing. There is also a requirement for visitors to leave some feedback and leave a rating to be displayed.

Thanks again
Ian
