Would I be able to allow a new non registered user to view a specific node... but have drupal make him to sign up then automatically put him in a roll with access to that node?

Check out Actions, Triggers and Rules modules. Using them you assign roles to users based on what they do.

Does the Auto Assign Role module fit your needs?

it seems like it would...but only if i would be able to define which user gets that roll via what node they are on.

For ex..

I send a user to a specific node

that specific node knows to give him a certain roll when he signs up from that page.

But if he or anyone for tha tmatter were to sign up form a different page(node)..then they would get default node access via default roll.
