Hey guyz,
i need some help and guidance.
I have just newly had my drupal site hosted with AN Hosting. Installation went smoothly, only to discover that they are still running drupal version 6.9. So i need to upgrade my site to lastest version of drupal for security purposes.
Now the folks @ AN Hosting wont provide any instructions on upgrading to the lastes version of drupal, they advised me to stick with 6.9 for now.
Now my question to the people who have their site on AN Hosting and just upgraded their drupal installation, how did u go about it ?
Thanks.

I've just helped a client on AN Hosting to upgrade their site and it's no different from any other. All you need to do is:
1. First, Backup your site. Login as admin (user ID 1) and don't log out yet as we need this root user to run the update script.
2. Deleted all the existing files on the site but leave 'sites' directory as this folder contains your settings.php file plus other contrib modules if you have placed them in the same folder.
3. Download Drupal 6.12, unpack it and delete the sites folder, then upload all the new files to your site, keeping the directory structure as is.
4. Finally, run update.php file (in your browser address bar type: http://domainname.com/update.php) [note: replace domainname.com with your own domain].
Good luck.
Ok thank you for the
Ok thank you for the advices,
I set up many drupal sites on local machines, and this always requires setting up a database through phpmyadmin or something.
In your instructions i cannot see anything about database set up ? Will i need to handle this myself ?
And something else i noticed,
And something else i noticed, the fantastico program install drupal files in both public_html and www folder. Im currently using the public_html for my site. Do i have to delete files in both these folders before upgrading ?
Just wanted to say thank you
Just wanted to say thank you very much for the "HOW TO". I performed the upgrade smoothly.
Once again thanks.
You either use public_html or
You either use public_html or www folder for installation.
I suppose, public_html is preferable.
I think you setup Drupal
I think you setup Drupal using the fatastico tool, usually the application version there is a little bit old, but stable for sure.
To install a site like Drupal, personally I would like recommend to install it manually, as the component or module from Drupal upgrade so frequent that you might want to upgrade the application right after the installation. Manual process will save your time for sure.

I too recommend installing it manually. A lot of people have become very lazy, and thus very lost when it comes to scripts these days!
