I Was Wondering The Same
And opened this issue to see how we can make the digital buying process faster and easier without making the users register.

tricky..
Hi Alexis,
I can't think of any file downloads ecommerce system that doesn't need some form of authentication...usually at least a password.
Although, I do see your point about it being an advantage to perhaps tweak the ecommerce workflow a bit, so when an anonymous user buys a download, in their email receipt, their username & password is included, so they can login and get the file they just bought.
In other words, the "registration" is included in the purchase, so it's a quicker process.
i.e.
that might be easier than creating new module or modules to handle same.

quick one..
hi manishnakar...
The Drupal ecommerce modules work out of the box with digital (file) downloads.
As a tip, what you need to do is enable the FILE.MODULE that comes with ecommerce, along with PAYPAL.MODULE and the store, product, cart and a few others.
The way Drupal ecommerce handles digital downloads is pretty good, out of the box. if you have a mobile/wireless theme, it's also handy for selling mobile content like realtones etc.
I tried it out a while back and while it's not the sort of thing you can setup in a few hours - it's do able and the nice thing about the paypal.module is that is has an option for INSTANT PAYMENT NOTIFICATION...so when someone pays using paypal, your Drupal site knows they've paid automatically and they can download the file.
I haven't looked at oscommerce, so I can't compare, but, if you've already installed the ecommerce suite..it's the FILE.MODULE & PAYPAL.MODULE that are key for what you want.
hope that helps.
