IMO, it would be better to have this link on the user "My account" form instead buried in the edit form.

I cannot find the validation link anywhere.
It would be helpful.
It is not on the editpage where I thought it was.
I am overriding my user page with panels so if it is on there, i will not be able to view it.

@earnie: i don't consider the edit tab a 'buried' location -- it's a primary tab available when the user logs in and visits their account. if your users need more instruction on where to find the link, perhaps some help text on your website?
@activelyOUT: it's right where earnie says it is -- you may try disabling some other contribs to see if they are causing a problem -- LT uses a standard mechanism to inject that link onto the edit page.
this sounds like an issue you should take up with the panels folks.
