After I hit edit for the "tell a friend" campaign itself, I am kept on the page. It doesn't goto the view page.

is this supposed to happen?

The "edit" of a campaign is different from the traditional "edit" of a node - it doesn't currently send you to the node view. There's no deliberate rationale for this, so we'll address it in the next release. Thanks for the report.
