anonymous users can't view forums

Description

I have set the access content and access comments permissions in the role permissions and the View permission in forum access, but the anonymous users always get 'permission denied'.

I have tried to use the devel (dns) module, but it does not show the permission box in any forum, thread or even standard node. Of course, Devel Node Access debug mode is activated.

Am I missing something?

The DNA module offers two blocks. Have you enabled these?

I have tried both Devel Node Access by User and Devel Node Access, but none of them is displayed in the forum. They are noe displayed on normal nodes though

I don't understand what you mean. The DNA information is displayed on all nodes but on no other pages.

Another thought: they wouldn't be displayed on the "access denied" page. You need an account that can actually see the node in order to get the DNA information of the node.

of course they are not displayed on access denied pages, but when I enter the forums as admin user, I don't see the blocks with the ACL data. It works on normales pages nodes, but they are not the problem....

Sorry, I can't help you. DNA works the same for all nodes (whether in a forum or outside), and unless you've defined role-specific visibility of the DNA blocks, then it works the same for all users, too.

It works fine for everyone else, so something must be special on your site, but I have no idea, what it is. If you really want to find out, you probably need to start with a plain-vanilla test site. That's what I would do...

Maybe it's a theming problem (try Garland) or some other module that massages forum topic nodes...

I had this same issue and not sure of the cause. Not sure if it was from the vb import, or something else. I yanked the anonymous permissions away and added them back. Oddly which is why I am wondering if it could had been from the vb import... I had to move sub-forums under a container in to the main forum directory. Remove anon. permissions, save then re-add and they popped up for the anonymous users. I then put 'em back where they were.

This is very odd indeed. I can't think of how the forum hierarchy could have any influence on node access. As far as node access is concerned, terms could be one per vocabulary or a huge hierarchy, and NA would work just the same...

Thanks for writing, but unless you can come up with a repeatable recipe there's not enough to allow a successful investigation.

Does vb import try to establish permissions, too? If not, then I don't see how this could cause problems either. The forum hierarchy is simply on hierarchical vocabulary, and either this structure is established or it comes out completely broken.

this helped for me too :)

I did not import any data. A very strange thing. Thank you for sharing this hint!

kind regards,

I'm glad it's working for you now.

A bit of an uneasy feeling remains, about the original issue with FA as well as about DNA not working for you, but I guess we'll have to leave it there.

Thanks for letting us know.

Feel free to reopen if you have something to add.
