I would like to theme the preview with CSS however there is hard coded "-" characters inbetween fields which I cannot get rid of with css.

Is there a chance we can get rid of these?

The preview display can now be customized as a display of the referenced view. It is no longer hard coded.

I don't see where i can chage the display for the autcomplete with the last development snapshot.

I've attached a capture of the "thing" i want to theme.

Only the preview display which is shown below the autocomplete widget on node selection is customizable. The node suggestions correspond to the default nodereference autocomplete widget behaviour. It's out of scope of this module to provide customization for that.
