I need to be able to embed a group of links in my content.

This sounds interesting, can you give us a clue as to what mods you did?

It's now an add-on module for Web Links and is part of the current -dev release. It also has a small page in the documentation.
It acts as a filter, so it has to be added to one or more input formats in the normal way. Then your content may include
[links-embed: xxx]where xxx is the group ID number. I will also be adding the capability to enter the group name #510088: Links_embed should also take a group name.#4
