I am working on an Afrikaans translation for core Drupal 6.x at present.
I have updated the Afrikaans translation for about 30% of the core modules already and plan to finish this before the end of July 2008.
The Afrikaans translation for a number of Drupal 6.x modules will follow.
The translation of Drupal 7 is plannes as soon as Drupal 6 is completed.
At the moment I do not plan to translate Drupal 5 or any of its modules.
Patches will be submitted when complete.
I do not know whether Kobus ( http://drupal.org/user/74 ) is still actively involved with this module.

I haven't heard of Kobus in a long while. If you apply for a cvs account at http://drupal.org/cvs-account, I will transfer the project to you.
