Optimize CSS files Breaks Theme

Description
First, thanks for the great theme.
Everything works great, except when I select "Optimize CSS files" under performance. The theme disappears. I suspect the issue is related to this http://drupal.org/node/332118 . I tried the solutions mentioned in comments 29-30. Those solutions did not work for me, but I am a noob.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
