I am trying to allow a certain number of points to be purchased.

i setup a product to do so
it has attributes

yet when I try to add the userpoint feature it only ads it to the node as a whole, not a product.

btw my product is a product class

Considering duplicate and closing. Please track further updates/status on the link below. Currently this is not supported. There is a feature request (http://drupal.org/node/865694) in for this along with some notes/discussion on it there.
