I installed the module and tried to configure it for the first time. I just wanted the assign a role when the user is created and I have user "User Role Assignment" disabled.
It would show an error that I did not select a "User Role Selection" or "Selection Method" under the "User Role Assignment".

Workaround:
While having "User Role Assignment" disabled select a different "User Role Selection" and "Selection Method" but only enable "Automatic Role Assignment".

I'm really curious to see exactly how this is happening as I have extensive simpletests in place that do not fail in the way you describe.

Here's the exact error:
If a user can only select a single role you need to set the selection method as Radio Buttons or Selection Box.

That error message no longer exists in the code ... try the latest dev version and see if you still get it.
