It would be nice to be able to configure the effect of each of these things separately. This would allow you to for example have a slow fade for the slideshow effect, but a fast wipe (left or right) for the previous/next links, and then some other transition for the pager links.

This is currently not supported in jQuery Cycle plugin that we use.
