I would really like to go to drupal 7 on release date but my site runs on newswire and it doesnt look like the theme will update to drupal 7.

How can I upgrade it myself or is this impossible?

There's a Theming guide that has information on D7 themes, etc. Start there.

The only thing is that newswire as that theme settings, where you choose the css style. I dont know if that should be upgraded or if its possible to deleted it entirely.

But thanks, i will look at the documentation link you gave, i might find it there

Of course I will update the theme for Drupal 7, there are many thousands of people using this theme, both the version here and the one for Pressflow.

I apologize.

I was not sure about this, I saw the theme was last updated in 2008. What happened to me with drupal 5 was that the theme i was using got out dated and I had to look for a new one. I thought this was going to happen again so just tried to make a plan.
