"Failed to fetch available update data" at /admin/reports/updates

some modules display version and update info, some do not - and different number when page is refreshed

this happens only on site hosted at Bluehost - a different site also with D 6.13 on HotDrupal hosting is ok

also seems related to http://drupal.org/node/549834 "Unable to fetch any information about available new releases and updates." on admin page

still having the problem, attached screen cap of status report after running cron with devel module

regarding http://drupal.org/node/549834 (which is in support forum, not an issue) - I am not using image_cache or any of the other modules mentioned there

I think it has to do with the hosting firewall and whitelisting http://updates.drupal.org which displays as IP 140.211.166.6

perhaps it is related to #512218: Checking for available modules fails for most of the modules - I have posted more details at #579376: update fails at BlueHost - "Unable to fetch any information about available new releases and updates."

most of these threads just say the problem goes away - I suspect changes in hosting server settings -

@decibel.places:
This problem has been going on for a while on one of my dedicted servers and it refuses to "just go away" (I wish it did).

The updates worked flawlessly until about June 2009 and appeared sometime after that. Has anyone summarized all the things one can do to address this somewhere?

Is Acquia Drupal immune to this problem?

I do not know if Acquia Drupal is affected, he problem arose a few releases ago with a version of Drupal core that generated too many requests for updates so it caused IP blocking - current releases are fine

the problem may be your IP is blocked on one or more of the Drupal nodes (nodes are determined by the load balancers)

you should file an issue with the Drupal infrastructure team with your site's domain and/or IP

more info here http://drupal.org/node/579376#comment-2076642

after they unblocked my IP, update works fine
