Hi guys
although I decided to completely switch to drupal from Joomla, there is something that always make me go look what's going on in Joomla and that the Team from Rockettheme.com . and they new free template Afterburner (you know like jet fast, and even faster!!!)
boy that theme is fast. Just look at the details : demo.rockettheme.com/free/afterburner/features/fast-loading
I installed in my joomla 1.5 with about 8 different block and content, frontpage etc... Total number of request: 7 yup you see right 7
and that's without doing caching etc... when I removed the footer it went to 5 request.
for the first time a team as successfully used performance techniques in a theme like css sprite.
I only which a team will do the same or better under drupal.
Drupal is such an amazing piece of wonders, but in my opinion the drupal ways lack understanding of common users. example I saw a drupal theme for sale price: $3450, yes that much Common!!!!! let's be real, to all the drupal themers THERE IS A RECESSION !!!!
while Rockettheme is $60 for a yearly subscription and you get access to they wonder themes!!!
I always have that feeling that Joomla really strive to focus on the end user, that they listen more
while drupal is too Geek and quite frankly to cocky
Drupal themer understand this many people are struggling financially, reduce your price example you actually make more money if you have a subscription based system let say people pay $25, 35 or even $50 per month than forcing people to pay $2000, 3000,$3450 !!!!!
we already know drupal is good maybe it's time for drupal and coder, especially premium themer to make it user friendly, create financial system that make it easy for people to buy, put the focus on user, make themes load fast, reduce server request etc...
or You'll have a great supporter of Drupal like me still wondering if he should have never leave Joomla in the first place.
Peace

$50 - $60 dollar themes while, cheaper and maybe even well done are still able to be purchased by many. Which makes it more difficult to brand ones website.
$3450 could be considered cheap if the theme is exclusive / single sale. Inherently allowing for branding.
I suppose there is a market segment where consumers either don't conisder, or care about branding and therefore have no need to consider whether a theme is exclusive or not. That said, those consumers would be where $50 - $60 themes may be of benefit, and are obviously marketed.
I don't know where you got the $3450 pricetag. It may have been of benefit to have that linked to the discussion to ensure you apples are being compared to apples.

I don't deny that they have good theme but boy the price is to stiff. And also the fact is even if someone buy a theme at $3000 they ll still modify the color, logo and other graphics to fit their need so really the argument about branding is weaken it may have been so in the past but now nope. whatever you buy realistically most people will still modify the images etc.. anyway and I think that 's what the guys from rockettheme understood they are very successful.
you know even if topnochtheme ask to pay $3000 for a year an get access to any theme people will still buy the subscription, but $300 for a theme damm!!!!!
what happen if the theme start to bug???? I am not paying $3000+ so that i have to always go and deal with bugs. I pay that price for a theme it better work 101% and realistically nothing work 100%.
another case imagine i am a web developer work for some client now you have to charge them for the website, and put $3000 on top of your initial price let be realistic here !!!!!
well it just my opinion.
I trully think that putting a more realistic price, subscription you ll still make money actually youll probably even make more, and in the same time you can create a forum where different expert can add their input to make your theme even better
that's exactly what the guys from rockettheme do.
I only which the rockettheme team will decide to include drupal theming in their mix

There is always learning how to theme. Thus an investment in yourself. Though for many I'd guess opportunity cost comes into play as it does with most things.
As far as bugs are concerned, TopNotch people are part of the drupal community. I have to believe you know this and that is why you chose to add this thread about topnotch to drupal.org instead of directing your displeasure with the topnotch business model directly to them via email or your own blog. With regards to bugs, I'd highly doubt that if a bug was found in a theme that they would neglect to help fix it. Though, speaking of hypotheticals in this manner seems ludicris in that it's just as probable if not more probable that the theme has no bugs in it because the outfit that built it knows drupal. I base this opinion on the GPL themes they've given to the community (for free), acquia_slate, acquia_marina, acquia_proper and the fusion core theme which are 4 of the ones I am aware of.
I'd have to figure that the people at topnotch put alot of thought into who their core target market is. Afterall, you wouldn't go to Wal-Mart to buy a top quality fur coat ; )
TopNotch aside, if someone wanted to create a site that sold themes for 60$ they are free to do so. I'd have to imagine that because there isn't a site like that already around, that demand is just not that high.
Maybe this is the perfect time for you, to step out, create some themes and create the business model you seek?
I think it's important for others reading and who come across this thread at a later date to know that topnotch isn't the only place to get themes. There are plenty of GPL themes in the contrib area or drupal.org. There is also http://design.acquia.com/drupal-themes born from 3rdworldthemes.

I am just wondering why you
I am just wondering why you left Joomla. I am completely new to the CMS sites and looked at some ratings sites before I decided to come here. I haven't actually made my first Drupal site yet. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both in your opinion?
I am looking to create a site that will have a separate registration form and profile for consumers and businesses. I am still not sure if this is possible at all... so I'm still wondering if Drupal is my best choice.

You won't get a unique theme
You won't get a unique theme from topnotch for $3000. That is only the buy-out price, meaning they won't sell anymore of that one, although they might have sold the same theme many times over already. $3000 basically gives you nothing. In my opinion those guys aren't right in the head. They think the theme functions (also in $50 themes) in their design is woth that much. Dream on and their site is super slow too.

that's a lot of sour grapes.
