This is a tagged release of geotaxonomy that includes support for geometry fields for storing arbitrary WKT - country outlines, for instance, and relating them to content.
The 2.x branch of the Geo Taxonomy module focuses on OpenLayers 2.x support, which means that it uses 2.x-style behaviors instead of 0.x-style javascript to do points. This breaks compatibility with versions 0 and 1 of OpenLayers, but adds the ability to edit points & bounds much more easily.
