I've been a member of Drupal.org and groups.drupal.org for two years now. In fact, I'm currently logged into Drupal.org as zoon_unit. Unfortunately, my login at Groups.drupal.org is broken and I have no way of fixing it.

The site shows that I'm logged out, because none of the member blocks are showing and the login tab is showing. However, if I try to login, I get an "access denied" error and several error messages at the top: (see image)

Not logged in error

The groups sync sign-in page has no place for comments. I cannot find or access my groups profile, (because it's broken) so I can't fill the form out correctly and there's no way to explain the situation. Groups.drupal.org will not recognize my drupal.org ID because I had previously registered at groups.drupal.org with the same ID as the main Drupal.org site. It comes back with the error: "The name zoon_unit is already registered." (see image above)

It's an endless loop with no way of repairing the damage. Can someone sync the zoon_unit account at groups.drupal.org with the one on drupal.org? Thank you.

Did you try to use the specific form (http://groups.drupal.org/node/add/account-synch)?

zoon_unit’s picture

I have filled out the form, but nothing has changed.

You have just created a node; when somebody will check the new nodes, something should change (that is what I understood).
The reason of asking you to create such node is that in this way the information is not made public.

Thanks for the reply. I just wonder how long it takes for the change to happen?

I'm having this same problem. I previously registered on g.d.o with a username of sreynen@drupal.org. Now I can't even login because I'm directed to the d.o. login page, which doesn't get me into g.d.o. I can't do the account sync because I have no idea what my user URL is, because I can't log in.

If everyone without a synced account is now unable to login, the account sync page should probably be more prominently mentioned. And people with g.d.o. usernames ending in @drupal.org should be automatically synced.

Also, the error message suggests contacting the site administrator, with a link to a form that specifically says NOT to use it for technical problems. As this seems to be a technical problem, that message should be changed.

I filled out the requested form several weeks ago and nothing has changed, which is a big problem because I was subscribed to several groups and still can't access them without going to each one individually. Still can't post.

How long does it take to sync a name from a form? It seems the admins could sit down one afternoon and knock out a huge list of these.

Still waiting........

I'm having the same issue.

I'm seeing "The name gregor7777 is already registered. Please contact the site administrator." on g.d.o.

I don't remember exactly in what order or when I signed up for a g.d.o account, however I'm sure I had one. The account sync form asks for my g.d.o profile page, but I haven't a clue what uid I was, and I don't see any means of finding it (no search results).

As it stands there is no way for me to post on groups.

Any word on what I can do to post on groups? I'd rather not create a separate account just for that.

avpaderno’s picture

drupal.org, and group.drupal.org share the login information; this mean that to create a new login in g.d.o you need to create a new user account on d.o. I would not recommend doing that.

avpaderno’s picture

Actually, the same login information is shared among all the subdomains of drupal.org.

And that, of course, is the problem. This issue is driving me mad!! I posted this issue weeks ago and filled out the login sync form, all to no avail. My link is still broken on groups. I have no access to my group subscriptions.

How long should one have to wait for these user issues to be fixed???? It seems that filling out an automated sync form should make it easy for admins to quickly go through the list of problems and fix them.

When???

Anonymous’s picture

That's the issue. I don't want to create a new account. My point was that the only way for me to post on d.g.o. is to create a new account. I'd have this account for posting/maintaining my project here at d.o., and another for posting on groups.

Obviously, this is not what I want to do and is apparently against the rules. I have an account on g.d.o., but there is no way for me to access it.

So unless I create a new account I have no way to post there.

Same problem here.

Same here. Very infuriating. I am trying to post some job openings for Drupal developers, and find myself going down a rabbit hole.

Moving to infrastructure per: http://groups.drupal.org/node/26125

There are only a few people who can handle this issue.

Priority: Normal » Critical

I'm moving this back to critical. The given definition of critical is "When a bug renders a module, a core system, or a popular function unusable." I'd consider logging into g.d.o. a popular function, and per greggles' referenced post, this is unusable for about 8,000 people.

I wouldn't really care about the priority if there were an indication that someone is doing something about this issue. So far it looks like it possibly hasn't been seen by anyone who can actually do anything about it.

Looks like this issue was fixed or my account was fixed. Either way, I can post on groups now. Thanks to whomever.

zoon_unit’s picture

Yay!! Groups account is finally resolved! It took awhile, but I'm glad to see the admins are finally working through the issues.

Thanks to whoever finally got this done.
