To give a chance to albanian programmers to use drupal, i suggest to add a localization for this language.

I didn't find a translation server for Albanian language, but there is the translation project at http://drupal.org/project/sq, which doesn't have translations for Drupal 6.

joanna_’s picture

this is the reason i added this task, and i'm offering my knowledges to add these translations that never existed :), of course if you are interested in

gábor hojtsy’s picture

@joanna_: what is your relation to http://drupal.org/project/sq then?

When the translations for Albanian language are moved to localize.drupal.org, we must be sure that there will be just a place where the translations are added; having two different places for the translations confuse users who don't know where to suggest new translations.

Also, the purpose of l.d.o is to use the work already done, not to replace it; that is the reason the request to add a new language in l.d.o should be done from administrator of the server currently used for the translation, or from a maintainer of the translation project.

gábor hojtsy’s picture

To be more precise, involvement of the existing contributors is what we look for. Starting all over again or forking existing translations without the existing translators' consent is not a good idea.

joanna_’s picture

Look guys,
I am new to the drupal project, as you can see, and now i am exploring it.

I saw the translations, and went to see what is included there. In the albanian translations, there is only a broken link that directs to a page that is continuously under construction. I have no problem to undo my propose for the translations, and go on as you wish. I haven't had time to see what is going on with the http://drupal.org/project/sq, and if i remember well, the only thing that i could see was that the translated files are from 2004 without any update.

You can sit and reconsider my proposal, and there will be no problem for me if you don't wish this.

OK??
I know that discovering the wheel from the beginning is not what programmers are looking for, and i didn't mean to do so.
So, if you think that you want an albanian translation of drupal, tell me.

Thanks
Joanna

I am iteresed too in Adding the Albanian language to drupal 6.
can you tel me how to do it?
were to find the right files?
thanks

gábor hojtsy’s picture

Sent the maintainer of the existing language team a request to provide feedback here. Latest releases on http://drupal.org/project/sq seem to be from 2007, not from 2004.

gábor hojtsy’s picture

Just got this email:

Hi Gábor,

http://drupal-sq.servebbs.org is the place for Drupal translations into Albanian.
Please add this server to available servers list.

Thanks,
Laurent Dhima

Looks like there is some more complication on the way to set up a central server and one more existing effort to get into this camp.

gábor hojtsy’s picture

So we'd need to have agreement to migrate that server and to join with the CVS files to this group. Resent questions to Laurenti.

Looks like requestor lost interest. Marking this postponed (vs closed) in the interest of someone else finding it later, and continuing our discussion.

I think it would be best to move the Albanian translation to L.D.O.

The translations are not picking up on the other projects. Most of them seem abandoned or with very few participants.

http://drupal-sq.servebbs.org has 2659 translated strings, so maybe that's the one that should be moved.

Gábor & Laurent, let me know how I can help on moving to the L.D.O.

I guess some insistence and coordination with the maintainer of the existing server is what we need. Can you help with that?

gábor hojtsy’s picture

Still waiting for feedback.

i would like to help in the translation too...let me know how i can help

@Gabor can something be done on this?

I was in Albania and Kosovo last month running workshops and promoting Drupal and there was a lot of interest in the FOSS community. Quite a few of the people I met have translated other projects. Although some people speak quite good English, but the overall levels of English is low. For example, I spent over an hour lost in a residential part of Pristina close to the centre of town and couldn't find anyone who spoke English.

Getting Drupal translated will help with adoption of Drupal in Alabania and Kosovo.

gent’s picture

The english speaking here is low but the F/LOSS people can freely contribute to the Albanian translation which is more important than waiting other people.

I got a reply from Laurent,
http://alblinux.net/ditari/p%C3%ABrkthimet-n%C3%AB-shqip-p%C3%ABr-drupal

I dont understand it 100%, but Let me clear my position.
Dave Hall said that the localization should be hosted on L.D.O, there are many people here on this thread asking for help.
I understand that Laurent has worked a long time on this. I am just trying to get the translations setup so people can help.

here is the google translation :

Moved lets get this over to http://localize.drupal.org/ is apparently the biggest problem that is preventing the release of new version of Drupal 7 ... or at least so thinks Mike.

...,lets not keep this in the hands of one person. ... Swimming lets keep this in the hands of one person.

And when it was in the hands of a person? An OpenSource product, in the hands of a person?

Before Mike and his friends to behave in this way, should be wondering why there are translations of "No official or half" of a single person in the official repository of Drupal?

Maybe just for the reason that for years the only years that person has tried to bring his voluntary contributions, with the tools and personal finance, in translating and maintaining translations of Drupal.
Starting line / first string translated was made known to all the start of the project for the translation of Drupal, is seeking assistance and cooperation of all. The answer? Zero, Zero, no person alive!

And so was created a full translation to 100% of the Drupal version 4: I sought help again just to test translation (considering the number of really great translation), and again no response!

Only after completion of translation for the Drupal since version 4, made the request to open an official profile DRUPAL.org CVS.

The same story is repeated for 5 and then version 6 of Drupal: Drupal meanwhile, has become one of the most well known of someone CSM found that there was also its Albanian version.
Meanwhile the volume of the translatable texts in core, modules and module officials contributed enormous increase in order.
Simply maintaining the translation work manages to snatch time, yet time and time, whose time is calculated by seconds.

Then (localize the drupal not exist yet), was created a svn server, with all translations, open to anyone who simply make a request to participate in the translation: no, not yet, apparently had not yet borne these Albanian translator!

Ok, maybe svn is too complicated, "co" ci ", and who gets to know? --
To do the job even more simple: Pootle server available to translate online, anyone can translate (and I in good faith will simply load in the drupal.org SVN under the name of the translator).

Ok, mqs probably want to take part "in the style drupal" translation, yet in the server space and resources to create a server type "localize" (identical to the official version of drupal) in order to avoid possible errors Direct translations in drupal.org.
No.

As so wrong: why we need someone to check translations?

We are able to translate error-free, pure literary language Albanian dialects without any impact on who we talk every day.
Even if there are Albanians, and do not speak Albanian, (so why do you have to know to translate Albanian Albanian), are ready to raise their voice in the drupal.org forums to allow anyone (with or without experience) to translate directly to the official server drupal translations.

Mike, manages to follow me (without google translate), and if so are almost maintained translations?

I am ready to make available all my work (although most found in the server-s drupal officials), free to follow and improve as much.

Once all entries in my server-s Pootle of drupal-en: Translations of Drupal should be continued in drupal official server!

Simultaneously start work on creating a profile installed directly on the Albanian for Drupal, with translations that will continue to "correct" for alblinux.net.

h4ck3rm1k3’s picture

I have setup a group for Albanian language users of drupal,
please join http://groups.drupal.org/shqip

lets get all interested people together and work on a plan to help drupal develop.

h4ck3rm1k3’s picture

Laurent write to me :
A working pootle server exists at http://alblinux.homelinux.org/projects/drupal/

so if you want to help, sign up there.
thanks,
mike

joanna_’s picture

ok, mike
so if u need help, i offer my knowledges for this project.

I tried and added a couple of suggestions, so if there is a plan it is better to do sth with coordination.

Have a nice time
Joanna

h4ck3rm1k3’s picture

Changed the name of the drupal group to http://groups.drupal.org/shqip shqip!
Thanks Joanna.,
please continue to help with the pootle translation, we need everyone to help get 6.0 finished, there is a lot of work to do.

h4ck3rm1k3’s picture

Just want to point out that laurents server is again offline.
http://alblinux.homelinux.org/
this is why we should host the translation on drupal .org so we have a team looking after the server

The way I'm seeing this http://alblinux.homelinux.org/projects/drupal/ (and http://drupal-sq.servebbs.org/sq/drupal/ which seems to be the same?) is alive and well, and has a huge amount of translations for existing Drupal versions. Looks like there is no decision to move off of that server as far as I understand it.

I sent this email to Laurent:

Hi Laurent,

Almost all of the previously drupal.org hosted languages are now managed on localize.drupal.org. Your language, Albanian is one of the last to use the drupal.org project space actively. We have seen that the duplication of translation projects confused users and developers alike, and are phasing out the drupal.org project spaces for translations. The git migration that is expected to be deployed on drupal.org in about 3-4 months does away with the ability for humans to manage .po files in version control, and we plan to migrate all d.p translation projects by that time to localize.drupal.org for a painless transition.

There is an issue open at http://drupal.org/node/600094 for Albanian that is lingering in the air as to where is the translation actually happening. Because it will soon not be possible to commit translations to version control, I'd suggest you take a look at the issue again and consider moving to localize.drupal.org.

Thanks,
Gábor Hojtsy, localize.drupal.org maintainer

laurenti’s picture

Hi all,

Gábor, please start the procedure for moving albanian translations into L.D.O.

Thanks,
Laurent Dhima

gábor hojtsy’s picture

Are you not continuing the existing pootle server?

laurenti’s picture

AlbLinux Pootle server is still in use, but not more for Drupal translations.

Great, I've just created the team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/sq and made you the initial owner / admin. You can add any number of other admins and manage group level permissions of people.

Please report issues as you find them! Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations. Anybody can sign up for being a member of the team and they will be able to submit suggestions right away. The initial admin can change permissions of people signing up, widening their capabilities. See http://localize.drupal.org/node/616 for explanation on how. It is highly suggested to grant both moderation permissions to those who you also designate admins.

Welcome on board!
