I allow users to rate things via Fivestar CCK from create content. If the user chooses not to vote on something he’s writing about, is there a way to hide the Fivestar from showing in full node view so other readers will not see a “blank” Fivestar, so to speak…like what the attachment depicts?

You'll need to do this in your template file or via css. There's no way to do it within the module

I'm going to close this issue because is a support request almost 2 years old.
