The current maintainer of Amazon Associate Tools (d5x only - http://drupal.org/project/amazontools ) appears to be missing in action. I have tried numerous times to contact him/her and others have as well. As it stands right now there is a critical patch which I have provided that is required for the module to work after some api changes at amazon - ( http://drupal.org/node/528904 ). I would like to be put on as a maintainer/co-maintainer (whatever works best) to get this patch in and release a usable module....

You should generally follow the abandoned projects process.

However, the module is not abandoned, but deprecated in favor of the Amazon module, so it should not be revived. All work should go into making the Amazon module into a smooth and robust replacement for amazontools.

I'm tempted to set this to "won't fix" but wait for more feedback.

Well it appears that there are many people who have the module running on d5 sites (myself included) that do not want (or cannot as their isn't an upgrade path) to upgrade and the module will no longer work without these patches due to API changes. As I said, the amazon module does not have an upgrade path for 5x users so many people do not have an option but to stay - plus they implement different functionality. I'm only asking because I, and others, have written the current maintainer and never get a response and people want the patches rolled into a release even though there are no plans to take the module to 6x or beyond.

So it is abandoned in the sense that the maintainer doesn't respond to requests and the module is currently in a state where it cannot be used. It's up to you what you want to do, I just wanted to try to help out by rolling a new release as requested in the queue by others. I'm happy with just the patch I provided which makes the module work for people....

If chad can get an existing module working correctly, and if no new features are going to be added to that modle (in preference for the other one) I don't see why we should put up this barrier for users.

Sure, it makes sense to me for Chad to fix bugs in the 5.x branch of the code only. This is still postponed until the normal "abandoned project" process is followed.

I've put in the request to take over in the module queue here (sorry for not doing that first, I even looked for the abandoned projects page but didn't find it) - http://drupal.org/node/609008

I will say I have tried writing the module's owner as far back as aug 13th when I made the initial patch to get the module working again and didn't receive a response then....

Then this is a duplicate of that. Please follow the rest of the process (waiting two weeks, etc.) using that issue.
