I'm working on trying to do this but I'd figure I'd post it here too in case anyone else might have ideas on how to do this. Basically, I'm just trying to figure out how to implement the excellent ken burns like http://www.gruppo4.com/~tobia/cross-slide.shtml plugin as an add-on module.

Any suggestions / nudges in the right direction welcome.

If you're not familiar with writing Drupal modules you should start by getting familiar with that. Once you've got that figured out I would start by looking at the contrib modules included with this module. Maybe make a copy of the singleframe module, use that as a starting point and edit it from there.
